Known as one of the most influential Cuban poets, her work has focused on love, the role of women in society, and herself.
Carilda Oliver Labra was born July 6, 1922 in Matanzas, Cuba.
She graduated with a civil law degree from the University of Havana and practiced law for several years, later teaching Fine Arts as well.
Her first collection in 1943, Lyric Prelude (Prelude Lyric) established her as a major poetic voice.
In 1950 won the coveted National Award for Poetry for her popular and famous book, in the south of my throat (South of my throat).
